Drew Nelson to perform for Charlotte’s Web Nov. 13
From press release
Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts welcomes singer/songwriter Drew Nelson at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, at JustGoods Listening Room, 201 Seventh St., Rockford.
Nelson is not only a great songwriter but also a great storyteller. Singer/songwriter Meg Hutchinson says, “It’s not often that someone can so aptly give voice to other people’s lives and make us believe every word.” Nelson’s stories are about people we know, people we wish we knew, and sometimes about the people we are.
Nelson puts feelings into words and music that capture the spirit and soul of the world around us with a common thread: Hope.
Nelson grew up in Michigan, joined the Navy and traveled the world. He saw firsthand what was happening in the world, and came home with fresh eyes to appreciate the realities of life in America. This insight and understanding fills his songs with discovery, revelation and hope.
Nelson is now expanding his love of music to the creation of the instruments he plays. He has just finished making his first guitar, and hopes to start a tradition of building and signing one a year to auction off for charity.
In addition to giving back to us through his music, Nelson is involved in many community-based efforts to educate a new generation and make our world a better place. He lives what he writes.
The Web’s Lani Richardson says: “I first heard Drew Nelson at a Folk Alliance conference in New York in November 2006. He sang songs and told stories with a humor and sincerity that set him apart from so many other singer/songwriters. He sings the silver lining of troubled times with an honesty and warmth. Attention, all you Peter Mulvey fans: Drew will knock your socks off.”
