Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC) presents its next Music on Main performance, “Music for Piano, Oboe and Flute,” at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, at the historic Emerson House.

This program by Stephen Squires, piano; Kaethe Durham, oboe; and Scott Metlicka, flute, will include pieces by Telemman, Ginastera, Prokofiev and William Grant Still.

Squires, conductor of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, is the principal conductor and professor of conducting in the Music Conservatory at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University. He is also associate conductor of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, principal conductor of the Salt Creek Ballet Company in Chicago, music director of the Millar Brass in Evanston, Ill., and music director of the Illinois Brass Band. In addition, he is an accomplished recital accompanist and free-lance trumpeter.

Durham, who grew up in Freeport, Ill., frequently performs with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra. She was principal oboist of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra in the 1980s, and has performed with the Mexico City Philharmonic, Musicisti Americani in Sulmona, Italy, and the orchestra of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. She spent 15 years in New York City as a free-lance performer, appearing with orchestras such as the New Jersey Symphony and Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Radio City Orchestra, and in many Broadway productions. In 2002, Durham traveled to Shanghai and Seoul with the tour of Les Miserables, the first Western musical production to be allowed into China. Durham now lives in Michigan with her family, where she continues to perform and teach.

Metlicka, personnel manager and member of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, is a member of the Elgin, Rockford and Illinois symphony orchestras. He also plays for the Joffrey Ballet, Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Sinfonietta and the Grant Park, Green Bay and Northwest Indiana symphonies. Metlicka teaches flute at Columbia College in Chicago, flute method classes for music education majors at DePaul University in Chicago, and has a private studio in Elgin. He has also served as president and membership chairman of the Chicago Flute Club.

The Music on Main concert series consists of brief, intimate musical performances in a casual atmosphere. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served.

Suggested donation is $10. All cash donations to benefit MPAC.

MPAC will also collect canned goods for the Rock River Valley Pantry at the door of the concert.
