Third-Friday ‘Raise the Roof’ event at River Valley Complex in Leaf River Nov. 19

From press release

LEAF RIVER, Ill.—November brings Veterans Day and Thanksgiving before the holiday hysteria settles in for good, and the common theme is gratitude.

November’s third-Friday “Raise the Roof” entertainment to raise funds to maintain River Valley Complex (RVC), 605 S. Main St., Leaf River, Ill., will begin with the local American Legion, Jerry Wickham Post 1148, posting the colors and sharing a bit of history.

“Then, we’ll clear the stage for music from the East Bank Commanders, a 16-piece big band specializing in popular music of the ’30s and ’40s,” said Andrea Dubnick, host of the series. “A number of these musicians are themselves WWII and Korean War vets. After intermission, we still have time for other family-tolerable entertainment—sign up at the door—with or without a patriotic or thankful theme. We still haven’t had a stand-up comedian!”

Show starts at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19, and may run until about 10 p.m. Suggested donation is at least $3 per person, with all proceeds going toward maintenance of the building. The RVC Committee will host light refreshments.

“I know that December is such a busy time, but we’ll have hot chocolate, cookies and carols on the 17th,” Dubnick said.
