‘Support Our Troops’ donation drive in downtown Rockford Nov. 20-21

Many area men and women are serving our country far away from home. Especially now, as the holiday season begins, we are reminded that our military will not be home with families for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so let’s send a holiday greeting to our troops and let them know we are thinking of them and are proud of their service.
Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen (R) and Jim Athans, CEO of Chemtool, encourage everyone to take part in the “Support Our Troops” donation drive by dropping off items for our soldiers at the semi-trailer parked in downtown Rockford this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20-21.
Items our men and women soldiers can use are canned tuna, freeze-dried fruits, beef jerky, candy, snacks; and inspirational books, magazines, high socks, sunscreen, tooth brushes, toothpaste and hair brushes. These items will be put in boxes that are personalized for each soldier by an organization called Operation Support Our Troops Illinois (osotil.com [1]).
Drop-off hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20-21, at the manned semi-trailer parked on the vacant lot across from the MetroCentre (lot boarded by West State on the north, South Church on the west and Elm Street on the south.
