Andreas Kapsalis Trio at Kryptonite Dec. 3
From press release
Chicago musician and film composer Andreas Kapsalis will hit the road with his Trio on a 16-day winter tour through the Midwest and New England, making a stop in Rockford at Kryptonite, 308 W. State St., Friday, Dec. 3.
The Andreas Kapsalis Trio represents the perfect alliance of eight-fingered guitar virtuosity, outstanding melodic themes and intense rhythmic prowess on percussion. Backed by drummer Jamie Gallagher and multi-instrumentalist Darren Garvey, this experimental acoustic ensemble is once again on tour, showcasing their sophisticated, yet rebellious, interplay on modern theme and variation.
This past year has been exceptionally busy for Andreas Kapsalis. On top of his live performances with Garvey and Gallagher, he’s played nearly 200 shows with classical guitarist Goran Ivanovic (The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo), not to mention his involvement with the Megitza Quartet, an original gypsy music outfit based out of Poland and Chicago. 2010 has also revealed Andreas’ desire to break new ground.
In early October, he was instrumental in helping to curate the first-ever Chicago Guitar Festival, featuring a smorgasbord of international guitar giants including Pat Martino, Badi Assad and Paul Galbraith. Andreas plans to make this festival an annual event, where he can continue bringing world-class artists some well-deserved attention to the Midwest and beyond.
Since the release of the AK Trio’s latest album, Original Scores, Kapsalis continues writing music for film. One of his most recent contributions involved composing a score for the 1927 animated movie The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Lotte Reiniger). The score was then arranged for the Trio to be played live with the film, in a similar fashion of a photoplay performance from the early 20th century.
Aside from performing in clubs and theaters around the country, the Andreas Kapsalis Trio has been hands on with students of all ages through master classes and clinics. They are excited to have more opportunities on this tour to reach out and provide insight about music they create and perform.
