Ethnic Heritage Museum celebrates the holidays

Ethnic Heritage Museum will celebrate two holiday events this season—Holiday & Christmas Traditions Open House at the Ethnic Heritage Museum Hispanic Gallery and La Posada at Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St.
Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4-5, the Ethnic Heritage Museum celebrates its annual Holiday & Christmas Traditions Open House at 1129 S. Main St. Each day, the museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m.
Admission is $3 for individuals and $5 for families. The museum exhibits the holiday customs of the six nationalities that originally settled in southwest Rockford: African-American, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish.
The galleries display traditional themes representative of each culture. Gallery trees are decorated according to each holiday custom. See a display of holiday ethnic treats and savor the music of the holiday season. The community is welcome to attend this special holiday event.
Saturday, Dec. 4, visitors to the Ethnic Heritage Museum may continue celebrating the holiday customs by traveling on to the Hispanic Gallery La Posada at Memorial Hall 211 N. Main St., Rockford. This event is from 4 to 7 p.m., with free admission. The program begins at 5 p.m. with a historical advent re-enactment of Mary and Joseph in search of an inn. There will be audience participation, stage performances and singing of hymns. Special nativity scenes are displayed and piñatas are provided for the children to enjoy.
Every Sunday, the museum is open from 2 to 4 p.m. for visitors to tour the galleries.
