I was in my car waiting for my Son to get out of school. With the way the clouds and sky looked, I shuffled trough many local radio stations and heard no weather notice'. I called my Husband to ask him if he had heard anything about weather warnings, the sky was turning green and I could see some rotation; he said there was nothing more than the tornado watch and a thunderstorm warning which had just been cancelled. The storm passed and as usual at 3:05pm, the kids came out of the school some looking up at the clouda as the sky started to show a little blue. I picked up my Son and by the time we were leaving the parking lot, the tornado sirens went off. This whole time no weather warnings on various local stations.
It seems that there was some major miscommunications. I was told the students were sent back in doors to a safe area when the sirens went off. I don't usually dwell on "what ifs" but this could have cost many lives if the tornado would have touched down in Rockford. I hope that next time something happens, communication is better between the NWS office'. I had heard that NWS Milwaukee was the first to notice rotation only to have NWS Chicago cancel saying there was no threat to life or property. Yikes!!!!
