State’s Attorney testifies against state bill that would abolish death penalty

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato appeared before an Illinois House Committee in Springfield, Ill., Nov. 30 to testify in opposition to Senate Bill 3539, which would abolish the death penalty.
Bruscato also indicated that while in Springfield he met with state representatives Chuck Jefferson, Jim Sacia, Ron Wait and Dave Winters to gain their support.
“Attempting to consider abolishing the death penalty in an expedited fashion during the veto session is unfair to victims and their families,” Bruscato said. “Legislation of this magnitude deserves appropriate time and consideration.”
