To the Editor: Thanks for printing letter about District 205 journalism courses

Thanks so much for printing my letter to [Rockford Public School District 205 Superintendent Dr. LaVonne] Sheffield. My former publications students and I really appreciate [Staff Writer] Joe’s [McGehee] and your support. Hopefully, the board and district will succumb to the pressure and keep the program’s courses for credit. Thanks also for continuing to model for all journalism students the “right and ethical way” to report the news…it follows the Jefferson High School Publications’ motto that was painted on the wall in my classroom: “Integrity IS Everything.” Your column on the canons and ethics of journalism was well-written…if I was still teaching, every one of my students would have a copy of it in his hands on this coming Monday!

Thanks again for your support,

Barbara “Babs” Erickson

Editor’s note: Barbara O. Erickson’s guest column, “District 205 journalism courses must be offered for credit,” appeared in the Nov. 24-30 issue. Erickson is a Journalism Education Association mentor and retired teacher/adviser of Rockford Jefferson High School Publications.
