From press release
LOVES PARK, Ill.—Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful’s (KNIB) Recycling Center will be closed on Christmas Day, Saturday, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Saturday, Jan. 1.
Lori Gummow, KNIB executive director, said: “We only close when the wind chill is below zero or when a holiday falls on a Saturday. To accommodate our dedicated recyclers, the center will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. We will accept cans, plastic bottles, glass containers, cardboard gift boxes and other recyclable items from holiday celebrations. However, gift wrap and bows are not recyclable. They are reusable, so people can save them for next holiday season.”
The Recycling Center will resume normal operating hours Jan. 8, 2011.
“If we have to close the center due to weather conditions, we will alert the media and have a message on our answering machine by Friday afternoon,” Gummow said.
The Recycling Center accepts the following items:
→ Glass containers: Food jars and bottles only (green, brown and clear). Rinse thoroughly. Caps and lids are not accepted.
→ Plastic containers: Bottles coded No. 1 and No. 2 with “necks and shoulders.” Rinse thoroughly. Caps and lids are not accepted.
→ Six-pack rings
→ Metal cans: Food cans only.
→ Aluminum: Cans and scrap (foil, pie tins, etc.)
→ Corrugated cardboard
→ Phone books
→ Paper: Newspapers, sale ads, junk mail, paper bags, office paper, computer paper, chipboard and magazines.
