‘BK Bandit’ arrested in armed robbery spree

Police have arrested a man they say robbed six areas business in as many days, investigators announced over the weekend.
Dubbed the “BK Bandit,” Shane Lones, 26, was arrested Friday, Jan. 7, at a home in central Rockford.
Police said Lones, of Reedsville, Wis., has been charged with at least two counts of armed robbery and is expected to face more charges this week.
The spree of robberies began last Monday, Jan. 3, when Lones allegedly robbed the Burger King on 11th Street. Police said Lones entered the restaurant armed with a knife and demanded cash.
The holdups continued into the week as investigators say Lones also robbed Burger Kings on E. Riverside Blvd., W. Riverside Blvd., and South Alpine Road.
Surveillance photos also linked the suspect to armed holdups of an E. State Street Road Ranger and Auburn Street Walgreens.
Rockford Police Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark said investigators received several tips leading them to Lones and worked late into Thursday evening, Jan. 6, to obtain an arrest warrant.
As of press time, Lones was lodged in the Winnebago County Justice Center. He is being held without bond.
It is unclear if Lones has an attorney or when he’s scheduled to appear in court.
If convicted, Lones could face up to life in prison.
