Gifted testing set for Jan. 22, Feb. 12 and March 12

Parents interested in having their children enroll in the gifted program at Rockford Public Schools are invited to have their children test for admission. Testing is scheduled on the following dates for students currently enrolled in the grades listed below:
→ Kindergarten—Saturday, Jan. 22, at Washington Academy, 1421 West St.
→ First through fourth grades—Saturday, Feb. 12, at Washington Academy
→ Fifth through 10th grades—Saturday, March 12, at Auburn High School, 5110 Auburn St.
Testing begins at 8:30 a.m.; students should arrive 15 to 45 minutes early.
Rockford Public Schools provides accelerated and enriched learning opportunities for students in first through 12th grades. The gifted program emphasizes independent study, college preparation, and critical and creative thinking. Gifted instruction has been offered in Rockford schools for 37 years, with elementary and middle school classes currently at Washington and high school classes at the Auburn campus. Admission is based on eligibility testing.
Students in the gifted program perform exceptionally well. In 2010, 100 percent of Washington Academy students met or exceeded proficiency levels on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). Students enrolled in the Auburn Academy scored in the 96th percentile nationwide on the ACT. Nearly nine out of 10 students in the Auburn Academy are recognized as Illinois State Scholars because their scores on college entrance exams place them in the top 10 percent of students statewide.
