To the Editor: Stanley Campbell’s theology
Many a column has been written by Mr. Campbell in which he equates going to hell because of the lack of enough good works. The Bible does have the answer to this, and it is found in Ephesians 2:8-9. God tells us it is by His grace that we are saved and not of our works or being good enough. We simply receive the free gift of eternal life by placing our faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary. Luke 19:10 tells us that Christ came to seek and to save those which are lost, which is all of us. Jesus didn’t come to this earth to be an example of social justice or to be a politician. He left His home in heaven to come to earth to redeem mankind. Mr. Campbell is correct about the works that we are commanded to do; however, it will have no meaning if you are not saved first.

Good letter! I too have a problem with Campbell’s theology. He wants to pretend he is a Christian, yet his christianity is easily cast aside when it comes to a discussion involving conservative politicians. Just look at a few of Campbell’s past rants regarding Don Manzuello or George Bush. Tell me the names he calls those man came from a Christian!
I believe Mr. Campbell feels good works are simply an expression of his faith. He may be in the group of Christians that read James (2:17) literally “faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead” and Matthew (7:21) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” And if you feel that all is needed is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then what difference do his rants against conservative politicians make? He could curse and swear and break laws all he wants. But he doesn’t do these things, Mr. Campbell is a good man of strong conviction. Call him, talk to him.
