It has long appeared to me that concern about gun control might really be concern about fun control.

If you find that statement puzzling, consider this:

Back more than 40 years ago when I went through Army Basic Training, as part of our indoctrination into Army life, we recruits were more or less forced to memorize and repeat various soldierly chants.

One of the most memorable of these was this one:

"This is my rifle,
This is my gun,
This is for fighting,
This is for fun."

A rather lengthy but most interesting paper on this association between firearms and male reproductive organs, as cultivated by various branches of the US Armed Forces, can be found here:

'This is my Rifle, This is my Gun...' : Gunlore in the Military
Richard Allen Burns
New Directions in Folklore, Issue 7, 2003
http://www.temple.edu/isllc/newfolk/military/rifle.html#1text

The US Army is not the only institution attempting to indoctrinate men about the functioning of their male reproductive organs. Pharmaceutical companies have also adopted this issue.

According to a seemingly infinite number of ads on TV and in magazines, a lot of men have guns that just aren't working so well.

Pharmaceutical companies would have us all believe that erectile dysfunction is a commonly occurring malady that nevertheless must be repeatedly paraded before the public in frequently-occurring advertisements for an astounding variety of erectile-dysfunction drugs.

Now, to the probably age-old idea that sex and firearms are somehow related add the newer idea that male erectile dysfunction is a widespread problem and what do you get?

Well, it seems to me that perhaps many, if not most, people who like hand guns and oppose gun control may in fact be subconsciously expressing their need for a reliable six-shooter, concealed somewhere on their person, to substitute for the dysfunctional one concealed in their underwear.

So, could it be that all of these Second Amendment devotees have ended up in that camp because they have fun control problems?
