LOVES PARK, Ill.—Pine mulch is now available at all 13 Christmas Tree Recycling sites.

“The weather has been cooperating with us this year, so trees are being chipped at all of our sites on a regular basis,” said Lori Gummow, executive director of Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB). “Area residents need to stop by with a container and shovel to take home some mulch for use in their home and business landscaping. The mulch is available on a first-come, first-serve basis only, and it goes quickly. People should not wait until they begin their spring landscaping to go to one of the drop-off sites, as the mulch will be gone by then.”

The Christmas Tree Recycling drop-off locations are as follows: Don Schmid Youth Sports Center at Riverdahl Park, Rockford; Blackhawk Park, 100 15th Ave., Rockford; Levings Lake, east entrance off Johnston Avenue, Rockford; Andrews Park, 800 N. Central Ave., Rockford; Gambino Park, Pepper Drive off North Alpine Road, Rockford; Alpine Park, 900 S. Alpine Road, Rockford; Martin Park, Park Ridge Road off Riverside Boulevard, Loves Park; Machesney Park Village Hall, 300 Machesney Road; Baumann Park, behind the maintenance building on South Walnut, Cherry Valley; Williams Tree Farm, 4661 Yale Bridge Road, north Winnebago County; Rockton Boat Ramp Parking Lot, off Hononegah Road; Valley View Farms, 6440 Belvidere Road, Roscoe; and Westlake Village, nature area south of the Smith Road intersection, Winnebago.          “Pine mulch makes an attractive weed barrier around trees, shrubs and planting beds,” Gummow said. “It also makes great ground cover for walkways and paths as it does not mat down and is slow to decompose.”
