From press release
BELOIT, Wis.—Beloit Winterfest 2011, held Jan. 27-30, promises to give everyone in the community a little break from cabin fever.
Deb Frederiksen, executive director of Visit Beloit, said: “We’ve planned an exciting schedule of events and activities for Winterfest that will appeal to all ages. More than 20 indoor and outdoor activities are offered during Winterfest weekend, and many of the activities are free or low cost.”
Winterfest weekend kicks off Thursday with some adult fun including wine tasting, a trivia party and live music. Fun for the family starts Friday with ice skating to a DJ, free bingo at Grinnell Hall, a chili cook-off, and a live performance of Chapter 6, a professional a cappella ensemble from Illinois.
Winterfest activities continue Saturday with the Free Family Carnival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 2640 Milwaukee Road. The kids can burn up some energy with the non-stop fun and activities planned at the free carnival including crafts by Doodles; lots of big, inflatable rides; visits from Miss Beloit and other local mascots; information tables and other activities by community groups. A four-on-four co-ed volleyball tournament and snow golf at Krueger give adults some active options. Saturday evening, take some time to gaze at the stars and planets through the telescopes during the open house at Beloit College Observatory. Bring the kids for Beloit International Film Festival’s Family Movie Night at the Rotary Center featuring a special selection of BIFF’s favorite family-friendly short films (rated G and PG).
The fun continues Sunday with a euchre tournament, swimming at the YMCA, free sleigh rides, and a nature walk held at Big Hill Park will get the whole family outdoors.
