From press release
Ethnic Heritage Museum (EHM) presents “Celebrate our Heritage—Love and Marriage” at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, at Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort.
The event features Sunday dinner, stories and showings of ethnic wedding attire and traditions. Attendees will enjoy special entertainment and displays from eight ethnic groups.
Families are encouraged to honor their heritage and discover how similar and how diverse our cultures are. Find out who uses gold coins, who actually throws pots and pans at the wedding couple, and who incorporates a broom in their wedding ceremony.
The fund-raiser includes a silent auction, along with a raffle featuring a custom-designed, $1,500 diamond necklace. Tickets can be purchased online at ethnicheritagemuseum.org and are $35 for adults and $10 for children, who will enjoy a special kids’ meal.
All funds benefit the capital campaign for the expansion of the EHM, at 1129 S. Main St., Rockford. The museum showcases six galleries devoted to the primary immigrant groups that settled in southwest Rockford: African-American, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish. The museum is open from 2 to 4 p.m., Sundays, and by appointment.
