I understand the need to reduce our dependency on fossil fuel, but I think we are putting the cart before the horse in our current approach.

We do not have the technology to meet the current demands meet our current demands.

Electric powered vehicles are a start toward reducing our dependency on foreign oil but we are far from being able to power our 18 wheeler's, aircraft, ships, and the trucks & machinery associated with the construction industry.

We have seen what even a minor disruption in the foreign oil supply does to our economy. Without increased drilling at least in an effort to supply the minimum amount needed to sustain our economy we put our entire country at risk. A major disruption in the middle east cut could literally shut down our military and defenses.

The feebate concept is a typical excercise in political blackmail. Let private industry first develop the technology at a level we can afford and will fulfill our current needs.

Don't penalize the public monetarily in an effort that will force us to pay twice as much for an equivalent electric powered vehicle which at current best is limited to 40 miles on per battery charge if you are now pulling a trailer or boat.
