Election Day: First Ward Alderman noted race in today’s primary

There’s one major race on the primary ballot today (Feb. 22), as five Republicans are vying for the Rockford City Council seat vacated by Joe Sosnowski (R) last fall.
Sosnowski’s seat is now filled by Tim Durkee (R), who was appointed by Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey (I) to temporarily serve the First Ward.
Durkee faces Republicans Don Hall, Stanley Hatfield, Joseph Chiarelli and Joseph Canova.
The winner of today’s primary will be on the April 5 ballot along with Independent candidate Brian Jenkins Leggero.
Leggero was defeated for the seat by Sosnowski in the April 2009 general election.
Sosnowski resigned from the council after unseating incumbent Ronald Wait to represent the 69th District in the Illinois House of Representatives Nov. 2, 2010.
No Democrats are on the First Ward Alderman ballot.

Accurate story Jim! Thank you. I’ve been receiving a lot of phone calls today and emails because WNTA News is making it seem like the winner today automatically is the Alderman of the 1st Ward of Rockford not even mentioning me. People are asking if I’ve dropped out of the race which I have not. I telephoned them a couple of times to let them know but they don’t seem to be willing to change their news story.
I’m a vigorous campaigner and I don’t think anyone should count me out.
Let’s make history here in Rockford Ward 1 and Elect the first Independent Candidate as Alderman. We can make a difference!
Thank you.
I’m Brian Jenkins Leggero and I approve this message :-)
