Hononegah Booster Club teams up with Bryden Ford for March 12 fund-raiser
By Doug Halberstadt
High school booster clubs have been known to try all kinds of things to raise funds for their schools. There’s the mundane bake sales, dunk tanks, 50/50 raffles, etc., etc., etc. Thanks to local auto dealer Scott Bryden of Bryden Ford in Durand, the Hononegah Booster Club has come up with something drastically different. They are hosting a Drive One 4 UR School promotion at the Hononegah Sports Dome during the RoRo Expo this Saturday (March 12).
Bryden brought the idea to the school while attending the club’s monthly meetings. He serves as a representative of the varsity baseball team. His son, Daytona, is a member of that team.
The Drive One 4 UR School promotion is a simple, innovative concept—community members take short test drives in new Ford Motor Company vehicles and Bryden Ford and Ford Motor Company in return will pay $20 per eligible test drive to the Hononegah Booster Club (up to $6,000). The funds will go toward the stated mission of the Boosters: to promote community interest in the school, raise supplemental funds for extracurricular student activities, and support academic achievements of students and staff.
“We see tremendous potential with this event, and the entire Booster Club is full of enthusiasm,” said Gordon Hays, Booster Club treasurer. “We encourage everyone to fill in the sign-up form ahead of the event,” which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. The Hononegah Athletic Office, headed by Jay Lauscher, has a good supply of forms and is encouraging all staff members to be pre-registered. Forms are also available at Bryden Ford in Durand and the Rockton Chamber of Commerce.
Anyone interested in helping the Boosters raise funds can go to the booth at the RoRo Expo or go directly to the southeast parking lot off Hononegah Road by the tennis courts and baseball and softball diamonds. Bryden Ford will have many vehicles to test drive, which should take 10 minutes or less. Forms are also available on site, so if you’re not pre-registered, it’s still quick and easy to support your community school.
Bryden said: “The Drive One 4 UR School promotion is genius in its ease and simplicity. Community members test drive a new Ford vehicle without any expectation of purchase, fill out a simple form regarding their experience, and Bryden Ford and Ford Motor Company make a big donation to the Hononegah. Booster Club! That’s what I call a win-win! I’m proud to bring this program to Hononegah!”
