Man arrested in connection with indoor cannabis-growing operation in Belvidere

State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), in conjunction with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, executed a search warrant on a rural Belvidere home and discovered an indoor cannabis-growing operation.
Thursday, March 10, SLANT agents, Boone County Sheriff’s detectives and DEA task force officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 3000 block of Pheasant Lane in rural Belvidere.
Seized as a result of the search were 486 cannabis plants, 1,330 grams of processed cannabis, a 9mm handgun, a scale and all the necessary equipment used in an indoor cannabis-growing operation.
Juan A. Silva, 32, who has addresses in Belvidere and Lake in the Hills, was arrested in Chrystal Lake and charged in Boone County court with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful manufacture of cannabis sativa plants.
These charges are only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
SLANT is composed of officers from the Freeport, Loves Park, Rockford, and Monroe, Wis., police departments, the Stephenson County and Green County, Wis., sheriff’s departments and the Illinois State Police.
