Man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter in relation to February 2010 altercation

Terrance D. Coad, 37, pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter March 17 in relation to a February 2010 physical altercation that left one man dead.
Feb. 8, 2010, Jerry L. Bagley was transported to SwedishAmerican Hospital by his landlord when he became nonresponsive following a physical confrontation with Coad, who was his roommate. Coad and Bagley had gotten into an argument after Bagley changed the channel from a TV program Coad was watching.
Coad confronted Bagley and began hitting him and, at one point, kicked Bagley as he was sitting in his chair. Shortly afterward, Bagley went limp and became nonresponsive.
A witness stated that, during the argument, Bagley was telling Coad he had a heart condition. An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was determined to be traumatic cardiac arrhythmia as the result of the physical altercation.
Involuntary manslaughter is a Class 3 felony with a sentencing range of probation or two to five years in the Department of Corrections followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.
Sentencing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., April 27, in courtroom 478.
