Airplane toss raises funds for Embry-Riddle scholarship
Staff Report
Rockford Area Realtors sponsored The Great Airplane Toss Tuesday, March 15, at the Rockford MetroCentre to raise funds for the $1 million Rock the Air scholarship pledge drive.
The event drew 551 participants. Levi Hintzsche, an aeronautical science major who graduated in 2010 from Embry-Riddle, won the grand prize of $10,000 on his 13th toss. The pledge drive aims to help lure an Embry-Riddle campus to Rockford.
Embry-Riddle has said it would like to put a residential campus in either Rockford or Houston that would ultimately have an enrollment of around 1,000.
If Embry-Riddle chooses Rockford, the pledge drive would provide scholarships to Embry-Riddle students.
