April 15 deadline for General Assembly Scholarship
BELVIDERE, Ill.—Applications are available for residents of the 69th Legislative District who may be interested in applying for an Illinois General Assembly Scholarship, State Rep. Joe Sosnowski (R-Belvidere/Rockford) announced.
The Illinois General Assembly Scholarship Program allows for each member to provide scholarship opportunities to residents of the district who plan on attending any in-state public university of their choice for the upcoming academic year. Sosnowski will be awarding 16 one-semester scholarships.
“I plan on taking a unique approach to my scholarship process,” Sosnowski said. “An independent panel will select recipients based on academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. I want to reward the hard-working students of my district while also helping those who may need some assistance.”
Students who are interested in the General Assembly Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
- Live within the 69th Legislative District;
- Be accepted at the state university of one’s choice as a full-time student;
- Demonstrate a commitment to community service;
- Demonstrate a need for financial assistance;
- Submit a fully-completed application, including essays and recommendations; and
- Fully complete the Consent to Publish form.
“Whether a student feels they meet the requirements or not, I encourage everyone to apply,” Sosnowski said. “I have a limited number of scholarships, but there is no limit to the amount of people who can apply.”
Interested students can obtain an application by calling Sosnowski’s District Office at (815) 547-3436, by visiting the office at 998 Belvidere Road, Suite 3, in Belvidere, or by visiting his website at sosnowski.ilhousegop.org. Applications must be completed, postmarked by April 15 and returned to Sosnowski’s office. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 15.
