<description>On January 26, 2010, I spoke before the RPS205 school board for the first time and stated, &quot;I hope the Board realizes that as elected officials you are here to represent the parents of Rockford and understand the high level of priority we place on our children&#039;s safety and quality of education&quot;.

I had attended the previous meeting because on Friday December 11th two RPS 205 students were arrested for bringing a loaded a hand gun to school, and wearing a bullet proof vest. I can only imagine what could have happened if another student had not alerted authorities. Unfortunately, for Rockford students this is just one of several acts of violence they had witnessed so far that year.

That might have been my one and only appearance at 207 S. Madison street but at that January 12th school board meeting I expected the “Superintendent’s Report” to address these concerns. Instead, Superintendent Dr. LaVonne Sheffield delivered a light hearted report mostly covering local sporting events. I decided it might be wise to attend at least one more meeting. One has turned into many.

I know Alice Saudargas placed a high level of priority on our children&#039;s safety and quality of education. I pray Kenneth Scrivano follows in her path, and Laura Powers Tim Rollins will do the same. Our children deserve no less.
