To the Editor: Obama’s energy program great for Brazil

Good news to all you folks who thought Obama had no energy program, other than his pie-in-the-sky windmills and solar panels. While chaos reigns in the Middle East, and oil prices continue to spiral, our president has a plan. This week, he announced that he is in full support of drilling for oil offshore—of Brazil.

You read that right, offshore drilling for Brazil. Not only is he offering full moral support, he has loaned (read: given) $2 billion of American taxpayer money to Brazil’s state-run Petrobras. This money is to finance the development of the necessary technology and equipment for offshore drilling. When Obama talks about “investments” and “winning the future,” he is talking about Brazil, not the United States.

So, while thousands of U.S. citizens go begging for jobs, and our oil prices streak ever higher, our president is showering huge sums of money on a South American country so their people can be employed. Not only that, once they harvest the oil, they can hold us hostage for its bounty. Isn’t hope and change great? Is this hope and change in which you can believe?
