Register for 2011 Great American Cleanup by April 22
LOVES PARK, Ill.—Registration for the April 30 Great American Cleanup is Friday, April 22, according to Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB), the event’s coordinator.
The cleanup will run from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 30.
KNIB Litter Control Coordinator Frank Manzullo said: “The registration deadline for this year’s cleanup coincidentally falls on Earth Day. … We encourage everyone to sign up to clean their neighborhoods, city streets and county roads. Last year, over 1,300 volunteers collected more than 39 tons of litter and debris that had been piling up during the winter months.
“We are excited to add two new supply check-in sites, Roscoe and South Beloit, to the long list of communities participating,” Manzullo added.
Groups or individuals interested in participating in the Great American Cleanup will need to choose a location to clean, or one will be assigned to them. They can pick up supplies, which include gloves, safety vests, garbage bags and litter tongs, at one of 16 supply distribution sites in Winnebago County: Cherry Valley Township, Durand Fire Department, Harlem Town Hall, Loves Park City Hall, New Milford Village Hall, Pecatonica Township, Rockton Village Green Park, Roscoe Public Works Building, South Beloit City Park and the Winnebago County Highway Department.
City of Rockford distribution sites include Patriots’ Gateway Center, Ellis Heights Neighborhood Center and the Riverside Community Banks at the Perryville Banking Center, Harrison Banking Center, State Street Banking Center and the Route 173 Banking Center.
Supplies may be picked up Saturday, April 30, from 8 to 9 a.m. Volunteers should then clean up their designated area from 9 a.m. to noon. A volunteer appreciation luncheon is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Patriots’ Gateway Center.
To register for supplies and the luncheon, go to www.knib.org for a registration form or contact KNIB at (815) 637-1343.
