The Rockford Board of Education is accepting applications to fill the board vacancy left by outgoing Sub District-E member Bob Evans, who resigned last week.
Sub District-E residents interested in filling the vacancy must submit an application to the school board stating the applicant’s qualifications to serve.
Applicants must also write a short statement detailing a reason he or she desires to serve on the school board.
Applicants may be submitted no later than the close of business Tuesday, May 3 and delivered by standard mail or courier, e-mail or delivered in person to:
Ms. Julia Halsted
Executive Coordinator to the Board of Education
201 South Madison St.
Rockford, Illinois 61104
E-mail: halstej@rps205.com
Applicants must be a United States citizen at least 18 years of age, a resident of Sub District-E and a registered voter.
The board will only select from applicants who have been residents of Rockford Public School District 205 for one year preceding a date of appointment.
Convicted child sex offenders are ineligible to apply.
As of this report, the person appointed to fill the Sub District-E seat will serve a full term that expires in 2013.
Bob Evans ran unopposed in the April 5 election. His resignation came two weeks after Superintendent Dr. LaVonne M. Sheffield announced she was stepping down and a week after Chief Communications Officer Mark Bonne resigned.
Evans’ replacement will be the fourth new school board member seated this year. Three will begin duties Tuesday, April 26.
The Sub District-E seat will be filled within 45 days, district officials said.
