Crime: Man arrested in early morning beating death

A Rockford man was arrested Tuesday in an early morning beating death of another man on the city’s west side.

Thirty-nine-year-old Earl Bryant, Jr., was charged with attempted murder after police were called to a residence in the 400 block of N. Henrietta Ave. There, officers discovered 39-year-old Sanford C. Marzette lying in a driveway at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Marzette was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to a police report, Marzette was beaten during an argument with Bryant.

Bryant is being held at the Winnebago County Justice Center on a $1 million bond. Spokesmen from Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato’s office said additional charges against him are possible.
