AmeriCorps: Neighborhood Tool Bank opens
Comprehensive Community Solutions, Inc. has announced the 2011 opening of the Neighborhood Tool Bank at 907 S. Main St. The Tool Bank loans out a variety of gardening and lawn maintenance tools and supplies free of charge. Examples of available tools are rakes, shovels, pick-up sticks, garden hose and hand cultivators.
The Neighborhood Tool Bank, operated by full-time AmeriCorps members, is a community service that provides needed tools for gardening and cleanup projects for residents, neighborhood groups and local organizations. It is intended to provide resources for environmental and beautification efforts in our community to promote a true sense of neighborhood pride and empowerment.
Over the last nine years, the Neighborhood Tool Bank has provided more than 2,000 individual tools, 1,350 garbage bags/leaf bags and 900 pairs of gloves to help both private residents and local neighborhood groups make environmental improvements within their neighborhoods and places of residence. The Tool Bank has engaged a total of 1,200 individuals within the community helping them to conduct a total of 190 community service projects.
The Tool Bank will be open until Oct. 1, 2011. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Interested individuals should schedule an appointment in advance. Brochures and reservation forms are also available. Tools are loaned out for up to one week.
