Artists’ Ensemble presents ‘Rounding Third’ May 13-29
Comedy about ‘odd couple’ of Little League coaches closes out the theater’s season
Don is a blue-collar guy who has big dreams of glory for the Little League team he coaches. Yeah, it’s true. His son just happens to be the team’s star player. This could be a winning season.
Michael is the new assistant coach. His son has trouble hitting, fielding and tying his shoes. But Michael feels that as long as the kids have fun, winning doesn’t matter at all. Right?
This “odd couple” of Little League coaches is at the core of Richard Dresser’s hilarious comedy, Rounding Third, which closes out Artists’ Ensemble Theater’s (AE) season May 13-29.
AE favorites Stephen F. Vrtol III and David A. Gingerich play Coach Don and Assistant Coach Michael, two dedicated dads who disagree about almost everything. AE Artistic Director Richard Raether directs this play about sports, fatherhood and an unlikely friendship.
Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 4 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Thursday tickets are $19. Tickets for other shows are $28, $26 for seniors and $10 for students.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.artistsensemble.org or by calling (815) 904-2277.
AE is the Rock River Valley’s resident Equity professional theater company and performs its season in the Cheek Theatre at Rockford College.
