Craftsmanship, talent displayed at Handmade Music Exposition
By Jim Hagerty
A few hundred combined years of experience was displayed at the JustGoods store Saturday, May 7, for the third annual Handmade Music Exposition.
Drums, violins, guitars and other unique instruments were displayed as live music filled the store at 201 Seventh St. Each vendor displayed a brand of uniqueness and personal flair with each instrument.
While some craftsmen produced traditional instruments, others let creativity lead the way, such as David Schneider and his line of mandolins, mandolas and guitars.
“I’m more of an experimentalist,” Schneider said of his craft, especially the art that went into creating an acoustic bass tuned like a mandolin.
Local artisan David Stocker showed a variety of handmade drums, many of which are made from cans, barrels and other material, while Jim Worland of Worland Guitars displayed an entire line of acoustic and electric guitars.
Live music, played on the handmade instruments on display, was performed throughout the day.
