Former District 205 employee investigated for alleged ‘sexting’ to male student

The Rockford Police Department is investigating whether a former Rockford Public School District 205 employee had an alleged role in what has been reported as a series of inappropriate text messages.
According to published reports by WTVO Channel 17/FOX 39, Monday, May 9, police were investigating a matter involving “questionable behavior that may involve texting.”
As of this report, it was unknown whether the student who allegedly received the messages, which are known technologically as “sexting,” is a minor.
The Rock River Times later learned the student was a male.
Rockford Police also confirmed Tuesday, May 10, that an investigation of the matter has begun.
“We just started the investigation,” Deputy Police Chief Greg Lindmark said. “We are in the preliminary stages of this. If some kind of illegal activity took place, I can’t determine that; and I don’t know if an arrest will even come as part of the investigation.”
The source of the complaint to police isn’t known.
“It would be very inappropriate to disclose where the complaint came from,” Lindmark added.
The Rock River Times received an unconfirmed report of the alleged messages last month and sent a request to District 205 officials for mobile phone and text message records under the Freedom of Information Act April 21.
April 28, Freedom of Information Act Officer Chris Euhus replied to the request, stating that text message records are not maintained in district archives.
The district did agree to provide The Rock River Times with mobile phone records of calls made from devices issued to the former employee.
According to Euhus, it took approximately four hours to compile phone records for the years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The Rock River Times, pursuant to Freedom of Information Act 5, ILCS 140/6 (b), was charged $23.35 for the mobile phone records.
