Spring Clothing Drive at area Hilanders May 14
LOVES PARK, Ill.—Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) will hold its Spring Clothing Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at Hilander Food Stores in Rockford, Roscoe and Cherry Valley.
“With seven Hilander Food Stores located throughout the community, there should be a convenient site for everyone to bring their clothing and other soft goods,” said Lori Gummow, executive director of KNIB. “In 2010, our three clothing drives collected over 213,000 pounds of clothing and soft goods from 5,423 area households.”
Area residents are asked to place their clean, usable clothing for men, women and children in plastic bags weighing no more than 5 to 10 pounds; no boxes or hangers are accepted.
“The items we collect are distributed in the condition received, so it is important that they be in plastic bags so that everything stays clean and dry until arriving at its final destination either here in the United States or in a Third World country,” Gummow said.
Accessories, such as purses, linens, stuffed toys and soft-sided luggage are also accepted. Any shoes dropped off need to be tied together.
