Artists to prep for Tinker exhibit beginning May 21-22

Artists working in two- and three-dimensional media and photography are invited to create works of art that are either inspired by the site, structure and archives of Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Gardens, or have a historical connection to the Victorian era.
Artwork will be submitted to the PASTForward: The Art of Place, Space and Imagination Tinker Juried Art Exhibit at Burpee Museum of Natural History Sept. 23-Oct. 30.
Sherrie Dorr, coordinator of the exhibit for Tinker Swiss Cottage, said the kick-off of activities begins the weekend of May 21-22. Registered artists will begin their work at 6 a.m. and continue until dusk both days.
“Artists will be on site, setting up an easel in the historic rose and peony gardens in bloom or selecting a spot or vantage point beside the picturesque Kent Creek with a view of the cottage atop its majestic bluff,” Dorr said. “The public is invited to view and visit with participating artists throughout the weekend.”
The weekend kicks off several months of special artist access to the site, cottage interior and archives prior to the juried art exhibit at Burpee in September.
The art exhibit is open to professional and amateur artists. The Best of Show Willard Dorr Memorial Cash Award is $500; the second-place photography and fine arts cash awards are $250; and the third-place cash award is $100.
Judges are Michelle Dorr, John Verl McNamara and Tom Clabough.
The public is invited to view the exhibit to select the People’s Choice Award Friday, Sept. 23, at Burpee Museum of Natural History. The People’s Choice Cash Award is $100.
