Panel selected for Aug. 6 Mosaic Student Film Festival

Staff Report

In celebration of their fourth anniversary, the Mosaic Student Film Festival (MSFF) has announced panel members for the Aug. 6 event.

The three panel members for this year’s fest are filmmaker Dan Lindsay, producer/director Corbyn Tyson, and 2008 and 2009 MSFF winner and filmmaker Bing Liu. All have strong backgrounds in the art of filmmaking, as well as strong ties to the Rockford area.

“When I set out to find the panel members for this year’s event, I knew I wanted three diverse and knowledgeable filmmakers,” said Jerry LaBuy, MSFF director and programmer. “Dan is a Rockford native who has a national filmmaking presence, Corbyn is a very talented filmmaker who works from right here in Rockford, and Bing is a two-time MSFF winner who has continued his work on the independent filmmaking scene.”

The annual student film festival gives fans and filmmakers an intimate glimpse into the student filmmaking community of the stateline area. College and high school students from all of Boone, Winnebago, Ogle and Stephenson counties are eligible to be represented in the festival.

Films for the Aug. 6 event must be mailed in by June 17. The films selected for the event will be announced July 15 and screened at the event Aug. 6. Doors will open for the event at 6:30 p.m., and the screenings will begin at 7 p.m. Full submission information can be found on the MSFF website.

After just three previous festivals, MSFF has grown into an event that goes beyond Rockford and has generated interest with student filmmakers from around the world. MSFF has even added new categories for the 2011 event that will include non-regional films to meet the demand and interest from young filmmakers outside of the immediate Rockford area.

Tickets to the festival are $5 and can be purchased at the entrance of the Rockford Theatre at Rockford Woman’s Club, 323 Park Ave., beginning at 6 p.m. the night of the event. Filmmakers who submit by the June 17 deadline will receive a free ticket to the 2011 event. Ticket sales from the night of the event will be donated to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
