Roy Gayle is a name that has been synonymous with youth baseball and softball in the Rockford area for a long time. Fifty years, to be more precise. The organization will be celebrating its golden anniversary with a special celebration later this month.

Sunday, June 26, the public is invited to attend the 50th anniversary and reunion from noon until 6 p.m. at the Randerson-Carlson Sports Complex at 973 S. Meridian Road. They will be celebrating five decades of serving local area youth in Pony Baseball/Softball programs. This volunteer organization has swelled to serving more than 1,200 boys and girls each season, ages 5-14.

Past and current sponsors, board members, managers, coaches, players and umpires, along with visiting local government and media representatives, will be acknowledged at the recognition ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Diamond 1 (near the main entrance). Immediately following, “All Star” Baseball/Softball Games will be played. Special activities for children of all ages will be available throughout the afternoon, including an inflatable play center, dunk tank and more.

Everyone is invited to see the recent improvements that have been made at the Randerson-Carlson Sports Complex. There are now eight diamonds, four of which are lighted. The Blake Barrone Playground has been constructed.

Phase 2 of planned improvements is under way, including handicap accessibility, water and sewer, walking paths, and paved parking lots.
