Minor League Baseball: ’Hawks host hot dog-eating contest July 4

A prominent U.S. car manufacturer once had the marketing slogan, “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet.” The Rockford RiverHawks will be incorporating two of those iconic American standards for their game on Independence Day, July 4.

The team is sponsoring a good old-fashioned Fourth of July hot dog-eating contest at their home game against the Evansville Otters. Game time is 1:05 p.m. at Road Ranger Stadium.

Contestants will have to pay a $25 entry fee to see if they can devour 20 standard ballpark hot dogs faster than the other wiener winner wannabes. The person who downs the dogs the fastest will walk away with a $500 cash prize and a huge case of heartburn.

If you think you have the intestinal fortitude to withstand a fiercely fast frankfurter feast, call Mollie at the RiverHawks’ office at (815) 885-2255 to reserve your spot.
