Man found guilty of 2007 ice cream vendor murder

Justin Dismuke, 22, was found guilty of first-degree murder June 24 in the July 15, 2007, shooting death of ice cream vendor Isidro Duran.
The trial lasted five days, and the jury deliberated less than an hour before reaching its verdict.
First-degree murder has a sentencing range of 20 to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentence is to be served at 100 percent.
Dismuke’s sentencing has been set for 1:30 p.m., July 27, in front of Judge Gary Pumilia.
July 15, 2007, Duran was selling ice cream from a push cart near 716 Loomis in a Rockford residential neighborhood when he was approached by Dismuke and his two co-defendants. The three males attempted to rob Duran at gunpoint. As Duran fled on foot, one of the co-defendants opened fire and shot Duran in the back, buttocks and legs. Duran died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained during the attempted armed robbery.
