79 arrested during June Roadside Safety Checks

Online Staff Report

Seventy-nine individuals were arrested as a result of Illinois State Police (ISP) Roadside Safety Checks in Winnebago County during June.

ISP troopers, along with officers from the Rockford and Loves Park police departments, checked 444 vehicles and made 79 arrests, some of which included six for driving under the influence; nine for occupant restraint violations; nine for unlicensed drivers; one for underage alcohol-related offenses; and 20 for uninsured motorists.

The ISP, along with local agencies, are increasing the use of Roadside Safety Checks. Patrols will be conducted and the ISP will continue to work to save lives by taking DUI offenders off the road.

Roadside Safety Checks are part of the “You Drink and Drive, You Lose” campaign, and when applicable, are funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
