July 9 Brat/Hot Dog Lunch to benefit troops
Staff Report
Grace United Methodist Church’s United Methodist Men’s Group, together with the Northern Illinois Conference UMM and the Blue Star Mothers of America, is hosting a “Brat/Hot Dog Lunch” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 9.
A Hot Dog Lunch costs $4.50, a Brat Lunch costs $5, and both include baked beans, chips and a drink.
The “Brat/Hot Dog Lunch” offers the community an opportunity to support our troops through the purchase of a brat or hot dog lunch, in which proceeds will purchase updated “Strength for Service” devotionals. The updated “Strength for Service” devotionals contain the original devotionals used during World War II (reprinted with permission from the original publisher), include new meditations from a diverse group of contemporary spiritual leaders, and are small enough to allow troops to carry and use them each day.
These devotionals will be provided to the “Blue Star Mothers of America” and Operation “Support our Troops” programs, which will include them in the boxes of useful products shipped to troops each month.
The “Brat/Hot Dog Lunch” will be at Grace United Methodist Church, 3555 McFarland Road, Rockford, north of Woodman’s Grocery Store and south of Riverside Boulevard.
