Photo: Renowned international scholar and friend of Robert Frost, Dr. Peter J. Stanlis leaves rare legacy

Right, Dr. Peter J. Stanlis (1919-2011), pictured in the summer of 2008 in Vermont at Middlebury College's Bread Loaf Graduate School of English, delightedly holding his new and final book, 'Robert Frost: The Poet as Philosopher,' that will revolutionize the popular conception of Robert Frost as a simple New England nature poet and argues that Frost was a "dualist," far beyond any single-minded viewpoint. The photo on the right was taken on the porch of the campus' Little Theater, reflecting the cover photo of Frost for Stanlis' new book (left) taken in the same place by Stanlis in the summer of 1944 after he completed his graduate work with the poet. His friendship with Frost from 1939 to 1963 was documented after each and every meeting with Stanlis, producing a wonderful understanding of the most eminent poet of the 20th Century. I am very glad to have this picture of the photograph of Dr. Stanlis standing on the porch of the Little Theater. It was available on the night of the Caxton meeting, April 15, 2009 but I neglected to request a copy at the time. I will cherish it.
