Car window shattered near Atwood Center

Online Staff Report

This afternoon, Friday, July 22, at Rockford Park District’s Atwood Center, 2685 New Milford School Rd., staff received a phone call from a parent who had picked up their child from a summer camp program reporting that their driver’s side window had been shattered after leaving park property.

The parent and child, who were not injured, drove to a nearby gas station to report the incident.

As a precaution, park district staff followed standard operating procedures. Park District Police searched Atwood Park and determined that the area was safe.

Campers were secured during their search, and students were released to their parents and directed by staff to leave the park through the east exit.  At the time of the incident, campers were inside the Atwood lodge participating in camp activities.

“At this point, it is unclear what had caused damage to the vehicle,” Rockford Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke said. “Park police are continuing their investigation.”
