You are invited to a special opening reception for new art exhibits at Womanspace! This Friday, July 29, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Anything Goes opens in Gallery 1 and Gallery 3. Come for amazing works of art by many artists in a variety of media. Who knows what you’ll see — anything goes!
Maybe you’ll fall in love with a piece of art and decide you can’t live without it in your home or office. It’s a win-win, since 40 percent of your purchase benefits Womanspace.
These exhibits are open through Sept. 10 during office hours, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Thursday, plus evenings and weekends when programs are scheduled. Both the exhibits and the reception on Friday are sponsored by David Boccignone of Ameriprise Financial.
Lots of evening and Saturday art classes are coming up in the next few weeks, so consider treating yourself to some fun! An Oil Painting class with new art instructor Tom Harrison starts tomorrow evening (July 28) and runs through Sept. 8 (no class Aug. 18 and 25). Tom is getting rave reviews from his students, so call now or register immediately online for Painting for You.
Acrylic Painting with Karen Gines is another summer evening class starting Aug. 1. Space is going fast, so register now for The Flexible Medium.
Aspiring jewelry makers can learn the tricks of the trade from Annette Conley Aug. 6 during Beaded Jewelry Making. The class fee includes kits to make one necklace and one pair of earrings.
Then, Aug. 13 Cherie Heck will teach you how to create Hypertufa Garden Art in an all-day artshop. Take home a lantern and a leaf casting, plus skills to make more at home!
Susan Burton returns Aug. 20 to lead another Sacred Path Mandala artshop. Her morning class earlier this year was so popular, we’ve asked her back to teach a longer class including color mandalas. This meditative practice was taught to her and certified by Judith Cornell, who passed away just last year.
Yoga fans, unite! Kathryn Newton is new to the area from Texas and brings us her thoughtful and well-researched Yoga Nidra (“yoga sleep”) class at 10 a.m., July 30. Wear comfy clothes and bring a yoga mat. We may meet outdoors if the weather is pleasant, so also bring pillows and blankets to support your resting body and be ready to relax! You can also learn relaxation techniques Aug. 9 at Meditation: The Image, a popular new class led by Dorothy Bock.
Stay Young to 100 is a Lunch and Learn program presented Aug. 3 by author Charlotte Hackin, who is 81 and happily shares her story to keep you going strong into your second century. That evening, a five-week Self Defense for Women and Girls class, led by Jimmie Getter, begins. Don’t miss this chance to learn and practice tactics to protect yourself and your loved ones from bullies, abductions and others who wish to harm you. You will feel safer and be empowered.
