Lemonade Stands for GiGi’s July 29-30

Staff Report

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. — July 29-30, volunteers will set up lemonade stands throughout northern Illinois with all proceeds benefitting GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford, a franchise of a Chicago-based organization providing a fun environment that nurtures people of all ages with Down syndrome and their families.

Last year, 10-year-old Grace Berlage used her business sense to raise funds for GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford, in honor of her sister, Julia, who was born with Down syndrome. By selling her lemonade and homemade snacks, Grace was able to give GiGi’s some of the funding it needed to open its doors. A year later, GiGi’s is up and running, and providing more than 100 families with the specialized education and socialization that prove invaluable to those affected with Down syndrome.
