Windmills are toys

For the last week, we have been in a heat wave. Our power usage is maxed out. And what are the windmills doing? Sitting idle. I have been watching the Grand Ridge windmills all week and driving past the Mendota Hills Wind Farm. They are not turning a majority of the time. They cannot be counted on as part of our power capacity, so we need to build reliable generation to make up for the renewable energy shortfall. It is like owning a classic car that you won’t drive in bad weather. You have to own another vehicle that you can count on. It costs a lot of money to own an extra car, just like it cost a lot of money to build windmills that are not needed. They are toys that the public is paying for.
