Man sentenced to 22 years for 2007 murder of ice cream vendor

Justin Dismuke, 22, has been sentenced to 22 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of first-degree murder for the 2007 death of ice cream vendor Isidro Duran.
Dismuke was found guilty June 24 after a jury trial.
July 15, 2007, Duran was selling ice cream from a push cart near 716 Loomis in a Rockford residential neighborhood when he was approached by Dismuke and his two co-defendants. The three males attempted to rob Duran at gunpoint. As Duran fled on foot, one of the co-defendants opened fire and shot Duran in the back, buttocks and legs. Duran died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained during the attempted armed robbery.
First-degree murder has a sentencing range of 20 to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentence is to be served at 100 percent.
