Rockford Park District dedicates third skate park

Skateboards and rollerblades are welcome at the Rockford Park District’s newest skate park. The Rockford Park District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 28 at the Washington Park Community Recreation Center Skate Park, 3617 Delaware St., Rockford.
The Washington Park Community Recreation Center Skate Park offers different obstacles, various ramps, and is the Rockford Park District’s third skate park.
The two other skate parks are at the Flodin Boys & Girls Club, 1000 Mill Road, Rockford, and SkateWorks, outside the Harlem Community Center Sports Complex, 9400 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park.
The Washington Park Skate Park is the only skate park in the district to offer hands-on training on-site. The lessons are free to youth ages 5 to 18 who are enrolled in programs at the Washington Park Community Recreation Center.
The Washington Park Skate Park is also a green initiative, as an old tennis court and other recycled materials were used to build the concrete base.
