Rockford woman arrested for possession of $1.2 million worth of cannabis

Illinois State Police troopers, in conjunction with the State Line Area Narcotics Team (SLANT), arrested a Rockford woman for possession of 1,219 pounds of cannabis.

At about 10 p.m., Friday, July 29, an Illinois State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Riverside Boulevard at Interstate 90 for disobeying a traffic control signal. Upon speaking to the driver, the trooper noticed the strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle. A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department canine unit responded and alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed 1,219 pounds of cannabis. The street value of the cannabis is $1.2 million.

The driver of the vehicle, Cynthia Marie Ornelas, 21, of Rockford was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

Ornelas was incarcerated at the Winnebago County Jail.
