Free lunch fund-raisers earn $35,000 for Special Olympics Illinois

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — When Texas Roadhouses across the state invited the community to enjoy free lunch July 29, diners came out in full force.
Luncheons raised $35,000 for the organization. All-in-all, 3,411 guests enjoyed a free lunch, courtesy of the restaurant, and gave generously to Special Olympics Illinois.
At the luncheons, local law enforcement officers collected monetary donations and 100 percent goes to support Special Olympics Illinois.
The free lunch included a pulled pork sandwich, a made-from-scratch side dish, fresh baked bread with honey-cinnamon butter and a non-alcoholic beverage.
Restaurants in Springfield, Champaign, Decatur, O’Fallon, East Peoria, Joliet, Naperville, Tinley Park and Rockford participated.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single-largest year-round fund-raising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The annual intrastate relay and its various fund-raising projects have two goals: to raise money and to gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised more than $22.025 million over 25 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments.
